impromptu three minute session - meet kyle...
Sunday, 3 May 2009 Whilst at the studio today waiting for the delivery of my latest boudoir furniture centre piece (picked up free from Gary and Julie - thanks guys, better than taking it to the dump), I got on with proofing a superb session from yesterday.
My brother arrived with his son and his son's friend, so I asked them if they wanted to have their picture taken whilst the they waited. Kyle was keen and excited at the prospect. So I got the camera, and captured a few shots - well ten to be precise - and he was suitably impressed, as was I.
Here he is, my nephew and God son, Kyle - a sweet mixture of his mum and dad...

I'm a keen photographer that has been quietly following your blog for a while now your work is great. I've still got a lot to learn and cant seem to get the same look as yours.
I can't believe that you did that shoot in 3 mins? I bet you spent ages in photoshop to create that picture. It was worth it though I really like your style and what you do with your pictures.
If you can do that in 3 mins why do you say that your photo shoots take an hour?
TIA.
A.
Thanks for posting your comment, I would have replied personally, however, you didn't leave your name or an email address.
I've had quite a few emails recently from photographers who want to create images like mine - to create the same style, asking how I get the look I do.
From my own experience, you cannot help being inspired by other photographers, visual artists, your surroundings and even your own background. The key is to use this inspiration to generate your own creativity and develop your own style. I invest in my career by reading, browsing, attending training courses and workshops as far afield as Las Vegas, however, arguably the most poignant for me is 'seeing'.
I'm often asked what camera I use, or the lens, the flash etc. If I were to ask my clients what camera I use, some will have taken note, however, I'm guessing the majority will remember that it's fairly big and black - and most of the time, they can't hear me from behind it! I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't really matter, so long as I can get it to do what *I* want it to.
It's very flattering for me that I'm asked these kind of questions, however, I'm creating my unique selling proposition (USP) in the style of my photography - it's like creating, practising and perfecting your signature.
Those images were captured in two-three minutes, possibly because of my relationship with the subject. In more time, I would have captured more expressions. An hour allows for more options, however, there could be something in offering three minute sessions LOL. I'm guessing that we've spoken to each other, as I don't think it states anywhere on the site that the sessions are an hour, maybe it was on our old site?
Thanks again for the comments and I hope that you are inspired to keep practising and seeing.
